On this island with its predominating dependency from imported goods and subsequent waste, the sea constantly washing floatsam ashore, and spread by the wind, the naked landscape leaving everything open on its surface for long times, the waves grinding the bits into invisible particles, observing this independent life of plastic is inevitable.
As part of daily routine, we have been reducing and recycling our rubbish. On our everyday walk and favorite coastlines, we have been collecting loads of trash, and at places, where people still throw any waste out of the car window, along the road to Teguise, or on the street outside home.
Zonzamas is an important archeological site, having its crater seen transformed into a main waste dump in recent history. Together with invited artists Scheibe & Güntzel we realized the cleaning of its south flank from hundreds of plastic bags and bits, blown over the rim.
Archeological field work, with Nona Perera and Inés Dug Godoy
Supporting our Swiss friends from COUP and Famara Limpia (now Lanzarote limpia), we participated in some beach cleaning activities, did flyer design and other presence.
